THE
COUNTERFIT
NIGHTMARE

For Mister Cimba

This one needs a bit of context for non-Portuguese speakers (there is a Portuguese text a bit down). Bruno Aleixo is an animated comedian created by João Moreira and Pedro Santo that grew from an underground sketch YouTuber to become a very well-known celebrity with radio shows, YouTube sponsored segments, and feature films, besides their regular content creation (that is often hilarious).

They have a (let’s call it) merchandising branch called Master Cmiba... Minister Cimba, sorry... Mister Cimba! That sells (among other things) socks with the characters and/or their famous quotes. This film is an advertisement for just that. Bruno Aleixo’s nightmare happens as he sees his beloved socks being counterfeited by the thousands. For his horror...

This film is a fit of stubbornness, firstly from Graficalismo and Sebastião, who came up with the idea of making a Sock Motion sequence, and mine too, as I did never think about keeping things simple. And so we both kept pushing this madness forward till we thought we kind of had enough.

This film, made with more than 100 unique socks, earned us a lot of prizes at CCP — one of the most important Portuguese national awards (including gold for Sound Design by Miguel Vilhena from room2studio, I had to mention him). And we also got a gold for Motion Design at ADC Europe with this great low-budget, tiny-team film.

A origem deste projeto é importante mencionar.
